Mapping - Petroleum system tools

Map Viewer includes standard tools for analyzing depth horizons, including:

  • Closures and fetch areas
  • Drainage areas
  • Slope
  • Curvature
  • Crest identification

Fault identification
Slope maps, vertical offset and curvature analysis can be particularly useful for identifying faults. Features on these maps can be quickly isolated by assigning transparencies to data values. "Color sculpted" maps can then be saved as a new map.

Advanced filters based on 2D convolutions are also available (e.g., high pass filtering).

Closure analysis
Closures can be quickly identified and constrained by size. These closures become standard category data and can be used for category size reports or as reporting criteria in complex 3D models (e.g., tell me about the petroleum in these closures between these two depth maps).

Create quick volumetric reports by specifying a depth map in addition to the closure category maps. Volumes can be based on flat fluid contacts, constant thicknesses or ishochores. Pore volumes can be modified based on a specified porosity or a porosity map.

Create a volume report along with a plot of each category's (closure's) area versus depth.

Fill spill analysis
Use the Fill Spill Analysis feature to quickly identify closures, traps or leak points. Pick petroleum "sources" interactively or specify a source map. Barrier maps can also be specified.

Fill Spill Analysis includes a risking framework that allows multiple realizations of the analysis to be created and displayed as frequency or mean values (depending on the specified output parameter).

Fill Spill Analysis uses the same algorithms as the high-resolution migration solver - no ray tracing is used.

Petroleum generation and expulsion
Use Map Viewer to calculate masses of generated petroleum. Input properties can be based on single values or spatially assigned using other maps. Outputs include masses of generated components, EasyRo values, petroleum generation index (transformation ratio) and many more. Calculations are fast enough to be interactive.

Extract horizons
Permedia™ software includes tools for extracting horizons from any basin modeling mesh, as well as extracting volume data from any volume. Applications include creating summary maps from Migration results, and extracting seismic-based data to create facies maps.
